BiographyofHelenKellerThestoryofHelenKelleristhestoryofanormalchildwho,attheageof18months,wassuddenlyshutofffromtheworldbut,againstoverwhelmingodds,wagedaslow,hardbutsuccessfulbattletore-enterthatsameworld.Thechildgrewintoahighlyintelligentandsensitivewomanwhowrote,spokeandlaboredincessantlyforthebettermentofothers.HelenwasborninTuscumbia,AlabamaonJune27,1880.However,herreallifebeganonedayinMarchof1887,whenshewasalmostsevenyearsold.ShewasalwaystocallthatthemostimportantdayIcanrememberinmylife.ItwasthedaywhenAnnieSullivan,a20-year-oldgraduateofthePerkinsSchoolfortheBlind,cametobeherteacher.TheywereinseparableuntilAnnie’sdeathin1936.EvenasalittlegirlHelenexpressedadesiretogotocollege.In1900,sheenteredRadcliffeCollegeandgraduatedfromtherecumlaudein1904.Shethusbecamethefirstdeaf-blindpersontograduatefromcollege.Throughouttheseyears,AnnieSullivanlaboriouslyspelledbooksandlecturesintoherpupil'shand.WhilestillatRadcliffe,HelenKellerbeganthewritingcareer,whichwastocontinuefor50years.InadditiontoTheStoryofMyLife,shewrote11otherbooksandnumerousarticlesonblindness,deafness,socialissuesandwomen'srights.Despitethebroadrangeofherinterests,HelenKellerneverlostsightoftheneedsofotherswhowereblindanddeaf-blind.ShewasapersonalfriendofDr.PeterJ.Salmon,ExecutiveDirectorofHelenKellerServicesfortheBlind(thenknownastheIndustrialHomefortheBlind)andlenthersupporttotheestablishmentofwhathasbecomeknownastheHelenKellerNationalCenterfortheDeaf-BlindYouthsandAdults.ShewasavisitortoanumberoffacilitiesandprogramsoperatedbyIHB.In1936,HelenKellermovedtoWestport,Connecticut,wheresheliveduntilherdeathonJune1,1968,attheageof87.Inhiseulogyatherfuneral,用心爱心专心1SenatorListerHillsaidofher,"Shewillliveon,oneofthefew,immortalnamesnotborntodie.Herspiritwillendureaslongasmancanreadandstoriescanbetoldofthewomanwhoshowedtheworldtherearenoboundariestocourageandfaith."用心爱心专心2
