NomoreuglyChinesetourists,pleaseAnAirAsiaflightfromBangkoktoNanjing,Jiangsuprovince,wasforcedtoreturntotheThaicapitalonThursdaynightafteranunrulyChinesepassengerthrewacupofhotwaterataflightattendant.ThisisnotthefirsttimethatsomeChinesepassengershaveexposedtheiruglysideoninternationalflights.Andthisisnotthefirsttimethatahandfulof"ugly"touristshavegivenChinesetravelersabadname.Overtheweekend,theNationalTourismAdministrationsaidthefouryoungChinesepassengershadbeenfinedandwillhavebadcreditrecordontheprovincialtourismassociation.It'squitenecessaryfortheauthoritiestoputthe"badlybehaving"touristsonthe"unwelcomelist"fromnowon.Accordingtootherpassengersontheflight,twoyoungmenandtwoyoungwomenfirstdemandedthattheflightattendantmakearrangementsforthemtosittogether,lateraskedforhotwater.Afterfailingtogetreceiptforthewater,awomanpouredhotwaterattheattendant.Worse,oneofthementhreatenedto"blowoff"theplane,forcingthepilottoreturntoBangkok.Butthatwasnottheendofthe"ugly"drama.WhenthefourpassengerseventuallylandedinNanjingonSaturdaynight,theythreatenedtobeatupairportemployeesafterfailingtogetAirAsiato"cleartheirnames",whichledtothedelayofadomesticflight.IrrespectiveofwhethertheywerewrongedornotontheAirAsiaflight,thefourpassengershadnorighttouseforceagainsttheflightattendantandputpublicsecurityinjeopardy.ThefourpassengershavedealtanotherblowtoChinesetourists'image,eventhoughmostoftheChinesetouristsarewellbehavedandcourteous.Infact,manyotherChinesepassengersontheAirAsiaflighthavecriticizedthequartetfortheirarrogantandviolentbehavior.Chinesetouristsmade98millionoverseastripslastyear,andthefigureisexpectedtocross116millionthisyear.SincetheincreaseinthenumberofChinesepeopletravelingabroadhasbeenphenomenaloverthepastdecade,itisnotpossibletoensureeverypassengerbehavesproperlyanddoesn'toverreacttoanincident.ButthisproblemisnottypicaltoChinesetouristsalone,itisworldwide.Lastweek,ChoHyun-ah,daughterofKoreanAirchairman,orderedaseniormemberofthecrewofftheflight,forcingtheplanewhichwasreadytotakeofffromNewYorktoIncheoninSouthKoreatoreturntotheairportgate.Thereason:aflightattendanthadofferedhermacadamianutsinabag,notonaplate.Inresponsetosimmeringpublicanger,ChoHyun-ahboweddeepinapologybeforebeingquestionedbyofficials.InasurveyconductedbyLivingSocialandMandalaResearchtwoyearsago,Americantouristswererankedtheworld'sworst,unfortunatelyfollowedbyChinese.ThisshouldpromptChinesetourismauthoritiestotakestrictmeasurestoimprovethefunctioningoftherapidlydevelopingtourismmarketandproperlyhandletheincreasingnumberofpeopletravelingabroad.TheTourismLaw,enactedinOctober2013,althoughaimedatregulatingthetourismmarketbymonitoringtravelagencies,doesn'thaveanycodeofbehaviorfortourists.MostoftheChinesetouristswhoexhibit"ugly"behaviorsabroad"nurtured"themwhiletravelingwithinthecountry.AttouristsitesinChina,it'snotraretoseepeoplecarvingtheirnamesonancientrelicsorclimbingupwallsorstatues.Somehavemadeahabittojumpqueuestobookticketsorgetupontrainsandplanes.Touristsareknowntoleavebehindtonsofgarbageas"souvenirs"atthespotstheyvisit.OftenmediareportshighlighthowChinesepassengersbulliedflightattendantsorairportemployeesbecauseofdelayinflights.Andsomehaveevenrushedontorunwaystostopplanesreadytotakeoff.SuchbehaviorsabroadcanonlygiveChinesetouristsabadname.Chinesetouristsshouldrememberthattheirunrulybehaviorwouldonlysoiltheircountry'simage.It'stimeforChinesetouriststobehaveproperly,startingfromhome.
