In fact ， the National Library of Peiping in the Republic Period compiled several union catalogues. The union catalogues of books in European languages are comprised of nearly all of Peiping’s libraries， while the lists of Chinese ancient books were similar to the subject bibliographies because of the limitation of languages and subjects. The four volumes of Union Catalogue of Books in European Languages in Peiping Libraries was published in 1931 ， which had a great influence. Afterwards ， the National Library of Peiping has been engaged in the compilation of the union catalogues of books in European languages ， and had the intention to publish a national bibliography.
