This study aims to investigate the expression of gankyrin, mdm2 and p21 proteins in OSCC and their relationship with clinical characteristics of patients. Tissue samples from 50 OSCC patients were collected, and the expression levels of gankyrin, mdm2 and p21 proteins were detected by immunohistochemical staining. The correlations between these proteins and patient gender, age, tumor size, lymph node metastasis and prognosis were analyzed. The results showed that the expression levels of gankyrin and mdm2 were significantly up-regulated, while the expression level of p21 was down-regulated in the 50 OSCC patients. In addition, high expression of gankyrin and mdm2 was associated with poor prognosis, while low expression of p21 was associated with worse prognosis. These findings suggest that gankyrin, mdm2 and p21 proteins may play important roles in the occurrence and development of OSCC, and can be used as important prognostic markers for OSCC.Keywords: oral squamous cell carcinoma; gankyrin; mdm2; p21 protein; prognosis.
