The purpose of this research is to examine the factors that contribute to middle school students' English learning anxiety and provide strategies to reduce or eliminate the anxiety.BackgroundIn China, English is a mandatory subject in the school curriculum, starting from primary school to university. Middle school students are expected to have developed basic English communication skills to continue to higher levels of education. However, studies have shown that many middle school students experience anxiety regarding English learning. English learning anxiety has been defined as a feeling of tension and apprehension when learning or using English, and it can negatively impact students' academic performance.Studies have identified several factors that contribute to English learning anxiety among middle school students, including: (1) lack of English proficiency, (2) fear of negative evaluation, (3) lack of English speaking opportunities, (4) lack of motivation, and (5) ineffective teaching methods.
