Unit 3 Science versus nature Cloning: where is it leading us
Cloning has always been with us
It is a way of making an exact copy of another animal or plant
In 1996, the scientists succeeded in cloning Dolly the sheep
On the one hand, the whole scientific world paid close attention to the growth of the first successful clone, Dolly the sheep
In general the scientists were praised for their wonderful scientific breakthrough
On the other hand, Dolly's appearance raised a storm of objections
It suddenly opened everybody's eyes to the possibility of using cloning to produce valuable tissues and organs that could be used to save human lives
However, some scientists have adopted the technology with the intention of cloning human beings although it is illegal in the majority of countries
